LAUSD superintendent calls for limits on immigration enforcement activity near schools

Students in the the Los Angeles Unified School District returned to classrooms Thursday as a new school year began with the usual excitement and some trepidation over waves of immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles.

As immigration enforcement operations continue across the area, LAUSD officials said they want students and their families to know their campus is a safe space and their immigration status will never be a barrier to their education. Immigration enforcement operations that intensified in June have continued in Los Angeles and other areas into late summer and the start of a new school year.
