Metro Moves Forward With Audit of Assessor’s Office Despite Wilhoite’s Opposition

Metro will move forward with an audit of the Davidson County Property Assessor’s Office despite the opposition of Assessor Vivian Wilhoite.

The Metro Audit Committee first discussed the possibility in June, when Wilhoite said she was “blindsided” and “perplexed by this request,” in part because the state regularly reviews the office’s work.

However, audit committee members unanimously approved the audit, with the goal of reviewing management of the department, the role of the Metro Board of Equalization and other questions. Committee members emphasized that their approval of the plan did not mean they believed anything was wrong at Wilhoite’s office. Instead, they said, it is typical for Metro departments to be audited periodically, and the last audit of the assessor’s office was completed in 2017…
