Popular Bay Area seafood restaurant closes while owner pays off taxes, report says

Saltwater Oyster Depot, a popular seafood restaurant in Inverness in Marin County that’s perched along the Bay Area’s oyster trail, has closed its doors while the owner pays an outstanding tax backlog, the Point Reyes Light reported.

Owner Luc Chamberland told the outlet that he began to fall back on reporting both his sales and sales taxes during the pandemic, when he “cut” administrative staff to do his own bookkeeping. According to the Point Reyes Light, a recent audit determined that Chamberland owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes, but a specific dollar amount was not shared. The audit timeline is also unknown. SFGATE could not reach Chamberland for comment before the time of publication.
