Local rain coming from Gulf tropical disturbance

HOUSTON (CW39) – The National Hurricane Center is tracking a weak area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche with a 20% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

Forecasters expect the disturbance to move west-northwest across the southwestern Gulf of Mexico over the next day or two before making landfall in northeastern Mexico or possibly southern Texas by Friday. Once it moves inland, the system will lose its chance for further development.

Potential impacts for Southeast Texas this weekend:

  • Higher rain chances (30–65%) Friday and Saturday, especially along the coast and over nearby Gulf waters.
  • Strong rip currents along all Gulf-facing beaches through at least Saturday.
  • Slightly stronger winds and rougher seas than currently forecast if the system becomes more organized before landfall.

Beachgoers are urged to use caution and check local forecasts before heading to the shore…
