Community holds vigil honoring teen with autism who drowned in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla (CBS12) — This Sunday marks one week since the tragic drowning of 13-year-old Roger Rivera, who slipped away from his backyard and was later found in a Port St. Lucie retention pond.

On Friday evening, more than 100 members of the Central Park community near the Tradition area gathered to honor his life in a candlelight vigil.

The gathering included prayers, heartfelt messages, and a glass card holder filled with notes for Roger’s grieving family. Organizer James Truscelli reflected on the loss.

“We had an unfortunate incident where a child lost his life at the lake right behind us. He was on the spectrum. Non-verbal,” Truscelli recalled…
