EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Erin strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane as it moves west across the Atlantic, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.
It’s expected to reach Category 3 over the weekend, which would make it the first major storm in what’s otherwise been a quiet hurricane season so far.
