Alderman defies allergies to find natural calling

PILOT, Va. — Daryl Alderman said as traumatic as it was, he doesn’t think much about the rattlesnake bite he suffered more than 60 years ago. But he’s firm in his belief that it’s helped him do what he’s wanted since childhood: Beekeeping.

As a child, he said he was “highly allergic” to bee stings. He recalled the few times he was stung, his face swelled considerably and this throat would practically close.

He steered clear of bees when he saw them but the allergy didn’t stop him from finding trouble…
