‘Why’d they let him out?’: Pinellas Park home invasion victim questions suspect’s release from jail day before alleged attack

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Just days after a home invasion in a Pinellas Park neighborhood, the woman who says she was attacked and tied up by her former handyman is sharing her story of survival.

Mckenzie Bray is recovering from Tuesday’s attack that left her with stitches, bruises and still in disbelief. Steven Houpt, the man accused of attacking her, remains in the hospital after police say that Bray’s fiancé, James “Jeff” Allen came home and fought back, stabbing Houpt multiple times.

10 Tampa Bay has learned through court documents that Houpt was released from jail just 24 hours before the home invasion after prosecutors dropped drug charges against him…
