Felon with firearm caught in Eugene thanks to plate reader tech

EUGENE, Ore. – Police arrested a 43-year-old man Thursday in connection with an incident the day before in which he reportedly threatened another motorist with a handgun on Beltline, said the Eugene Police Department.

EPD officials said that the incident occurred on Aug. 13 when the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Shawn Harold Raymond, allegedly brandished a handgun at a 49-year-old man and rammed his vehicle multiple times along Beltline Highway to Royal Avenue. The dispute continued, and Raymond reportedly displayed a firearm once more.

On Aug. 14, officers used the department’s license plate reader technology to locate the suspect’s vehicle. They found Raymond near his car and obtained a search warrant, discovering several weapons, including a handgun and brass knuckles.
