WWII planes flew over Columbia, but one veteran’s ride meant more than most

COLUMBIA, S.C. — History soared over Columbia this weekend as the Columbia Metropolitan Airport hosted Fly for Foundations, a high-flying charity event that offered vintage aircraft rides and raised funds for several South Carolina-based nonprofit organizations.
