NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Animal shelters across Middle Tennessee say they are overwhelmed, and the problem isn’t slowing down.
The SPCA of Middle Tennessee reports getting dozens of calls every day from people wanting to surrender their pets, but there’s simply no space. Staff say that by noon most days, they’ve already turned away 20 to 30 pet owners looking to give up their dogs.
“We’re all full and we don’t have enough fosters, and there are not enough people adopting,” said Erin Holland, SPCA Foster Coordinator. “The dog population is out of control right now because we don’t have affordable spay and neuter clinics. We have some in the state that do low-cost spay and neuter, but every county needs one.”…
