City officials crack down on ‘vulgar’ clothing being sold at tourist hotspot

The oceanfront stores in Virginia Beach are known for selling provocative and profanity-labeled merchandise, but the clothing may be pulled from display as part of a bid to preserve the area’s image as family-friendly.

The Virginia Beach City Council approved a resolution on Tuesday which urged retailers to voluntarily get rid of the “indecent” clothing, Fox News reported. The tourist hotspot is full of restaurants, hotels and stores.

Some displays reportedly include clothing on mannequins that include slogans including “It ain’t going to spank itself.”

“Not good for our brand”

“Along Atlantic Avenue, there has been a proliferation of indecent and/or vulgar T-shirts and displays in storefronts. The proliferation of such displays creates an unwelcoming environment for the very families to whom the city markets itself and the city’s residents,” the resolution said, according to the outlet…
