AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — From Meteorologist Brian James, storms are expected to make a return across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles over the next several days, but the good news is that flooding risks look very low.
Forecasters said isolated to scattered thunderstorms will develop from Sunday through Wednesday, bringing gusty winds, lightning, and occasional heavy downpours, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated.
On Saturday, an upper-level high over Missouri and a trough out west opened the door for disturbances to slide into the region from the southwest. This setup helped keep most of the moisture out west at first, but conditions are shifting, and by Sunday afternoon, storms are expected to blossom more across central and western parts of the panhandles. Some of these storms could drop rain at rates of up to two inches an hour, leading to very localized flooding, though severe hail and strong organized systems are unlikely.
