The wholesome cause behind the free golf cart rides at the Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, Iowa — For over 40 years, a team of volunteers from Za Ga Zig Shriners has worked every day of the Iowa State Fair from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., all to ensure fairgoers can skip the long walk from the B and C parking lots to the fairgrounds and vice-versa.

“I think it’s important just for everybody to get a ride to their car.,” said J.R. Legg, the Shriners’ Altoona potentate. “We help everybody, from teenage kids to senior citizens to handicapped folks.”

While the rides are free, there are QR codes on each windshield that lead you to a donation page to support the Shriners Hospitals for Children…
