ABQ BioPark welcomes three new flamingoes

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – There’s a baby boom at the Albuquerque BioPark, and it’s definitely something to squawk about. The zoo welcomed not one, but three new flamingo chicks this summer.

The trio hatched on July 11, July 30, and August 6, and they’re joining their older sibling Ziggy, who made headlines last year as the first flamingo born at the BioPark in 11 years. The animal care team says the chicks are thriving and each one is at a different stage of development.

As they grow, the BioPark says the chicks will eventually join the rest of the flock on Flamingo Island. Fun fact: flamingoes are born white and gradually turn pink as they eat more shrimp…
