First rabies case of 2025 in Davidson County after fox attacks dog, person

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A rabid fox attacked a person and their dog in High Point this week, marking Davidson County’s first confirmed rabies case of 2025, health officials said.

The Davidson County Health Department said the attack happened at a home north of the Hasty area. The fox, which had been spotted in the area showing unusual behavior, was captured and sent to the State Lab for testing. Results confirmed it was infected with the rabies virus.

The resident who was bitten received medical care, including a post-exposure rabies vaccine. The dog, which was up to date on its rabies shots, received a booster and will be monitored at home for 45 days…
