ALDOT announces lane closures on I-65 in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (TRIBUNE) — The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has announced a series of planned lane closures on Interstate 65 between Milepost 238 (U.S. 31 Alabaster exit) and Milepost 236.5 for bridge access work.

Weather permitting, work will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, with the closure of the outside lane of I-65 southbound for temporary concrete barrier installation and grading. All lanes are expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18. The same outside lane closure will be in place nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 18–20.

Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 8 p.m., ALDOT will close the inside lanes of both southbound and northbound I-65 in the same stretch for additional barrier installation and grading work. Lanes will reopen at approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, and again after a second overnight closure from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22.

ALDOT urges motorists to consider alternate routes, adjust travel times, observe work zone speed limits and signs, and use caution in the area. The agency thanked drivers for their patience during the construction operation, which is part of ongoing efforts to improve Alabama’s roadways…
