Santee Cooper to begin controlled spilling operations due to heavy rainfall, upstream lake operations

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Santee Cooper announced Saturday it will begin controlled spilling operations due to expected heavy rainfall.

“Heavy rainfall in the Santee Cooper watershed, combined with upstream lake operations, has increased inflows into the Santee Cooper Lakes system,” the utility said.

In order to manage lake levels, and stay within limits of its operating license, Santee Cooper said controlled spilling operations are necessary at the Santee Dam on Lake Marion…
