Hot and sunny start to the week

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – High pressure will build into the area for the start of the work week. This will allow for mostly sunny days across the Grand Strand, Pee Dee and border belt through most of the week. There will a slight chance of an isolated shower or storm on Tuesday. Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees in our coastal areas. As you had inland, temperatures will warm into the low to at times mid 90s. Heat index values, will be near 100 through Monday. Overnight lows will fall into the low to mid 70s area wide.

As we continue through the week, all eyes will be on Hurricane Erin. While our area will stay rain and mostly wind free, we will still feel some affects of Erin as it passes by midweek. We will see dangerous to deadly rip currents across the area. Rough surf conditions will be likely as well. Waves could build to 5-7 feet Tuesday – Thursday. This will make ocean conditions pretty intense. Depending on tidal cycles and the exact track of Erin, some coastal flooding and erosion could be an small issue.

As we head towards the end of the week, into the weekend. A cold front will drop through the area and stall to our south. This will help generate some scattered thunderstorms on Friday into Saturday.
