Pedestrian hit by Tesla after darting into traffic in Carmel Valley: police

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man is fighting for his life after being struck by a Tesla while running into traffic in Carmel Valley on Saturday, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident happened on Del Mar Heights Road at Lansdale Drive around 8:45 p.m. when an 18-year-old woman driving a Tesla Model 3 was heading westbound just after encountering a green light.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and transported the man to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a skull fracture, multiple facial fractures, a collapsed lung, and acute respiratory failure. His current condition is unknown.

Police said a 32-year-old male pedestrian ran into the intersection from the northeast corner, directly into the Tesla’s path of travel. The driver was unable to avoid the collision, striking him directly.
