Man accused of posing as Willis wedding venue owner arrested in $200K scam

A man was arrested and charged Friday in connection with a Houston-area scam involving a Willis wedding venue on Lake Conroe, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Carl John Butcho II, who used the alias Lance Miller, was arrested in Travis County and charged with theft of property valued between $150,000 and $300,000, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Butcho posed as the owner and manager of the Charleston Lane Wedding Venue located in Willis, where he allegedly scammed 12 people who reported paying for weddings that never happened, resulting in combined losses of more than $200,000, according to the sheriff’s office. Five other people who had weddings at the venue told authorities they never received promised refunds for various issues, totaling $11,450 in losses…
