A bit less hot, spotty storms in western Kansas

Storm Track 3 Forecast: A bit less hot, spotty storms in western Kansas

A few showers moved through northwest Kansas overnight and brought some spotty downpours, but we are staying mainly dry to start our Sunday.

Another hot one coming up, but expecting to be a couple degrees less hot today than yesterday. Highs will be mainly in the middle to upper 90s.

Kay County will remain under a Heat Advisory through the evening.

A few showers and storms bubble across western Kansas this afternoon and evening. Severe weather is not expected from this activity.

Temperatures fall to the 60s and 70s overnight.

There may be a few stray showers early on Monday in southern Kansas, but chances will remain slim for most.

Monday remains hot, with highs returning to the middle and upper 90s for some while gradually cooling for areas farther west.

A weak cold front will settle into northern Kansas by Monday evening, and this serves as an ignition point for spotty showers and storms.

A few showers and storms may be strong, especially near the Nebraska – Kansas state line.

Rain chances will persist into Tuesday, but storm activity stays spotty in nature with many places missing the moisture connection.

The late week looks largely quiet from Wednesday through Saturday, with temperatures staying warm but not far off the mark from average.

A stronger cold front will be possible next weekend, which could also spell a return to rain chances in about a week’s time.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Hurricane Erin peaked as a Category 5 hurricane to the north of Puerto Rico yesterday and remains powerful, but is going through some structural changes today and has weakened to Category 3 this morning. The storm will move to the northwest before curving to the northeast. The current forecast track is a good scenario, as it stays away from land and shoots the gap between the East Coast and Bermuda.
