Lottery safe at Northwest Portland deli stolen after thief hides in closet until closing

PORTLAND, Oregon — A burglar stole a lottery safe from Mad Greek Deli in Northwest Portland after hiding inside the restaurant until it closed Thursday night, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the deli owner.

Owner Jake Marks described how the suspect waited in a broom closet until after closing. “One was in the front cleaning the bar and then my cook was in the kitchen cleaning the kitchen,” Marks said. “They emerged from the closet, watching to see the coast was clear.”

Surveillance video shared with KGW shows the suspect locating the safe and initially struggling to remove it. Moments later, he returned, successfully lifting the safe from the floor and fleeing the restaurant. Marks said the safe contained close to $30,000…
