ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Security is a top priority for Asheville City Schools for the 2025-26 school year. District leaders spent the summer making safety improvements to several schools.
Lucy Herring Elementary School has an entirely new entrance with a three-lock security vestibule where guests will drop items off at a window rather than gaining full access to the school. Asheville City Schools’ Chief of Operations April Dockery said this upgrade improves safety for the entire campus.
“Parents will get buzzed in and drop off belongings without having to come into the school. Staff can meet them,” Dockery said.
