A look into the effects of ‘no snitching’ culture

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Angela Cheatham has spent nine years seeking justice for her son, Roger Cheatham, who was fatally shot in his Birmingham apartment. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made, and the case remains cold.

“Roger was my only son,” Angela Cheatham said. “He meant everything to me.”

The pervasive “no snitching” culture, which discourages individuals from cooperating with law enforcement, has hindered progress in the investigation. Angela Cheatham expressed her frustration, saying, “It’s hard and I feel like it’s me today and it might be someone else tomorrow. When it happens in someone else’s family, they want someone to come and talk, but with this no snitching, I think they just basically scared to say anything.”…
