SALISBURY, N.C. (WKRC/WSOC/CNN Newsource) – Four years after a controversial incident involving a K9 unit, the former police officer has been sworn in as a deputy.
Former Salisbury Police Officer James Hampton, who was seen in a 2020 video lifting K9 Zuul by the collar and later striking the animal, resigned from the Salisbury Police Department before he could be terminated.
Union County Sheriff’s Office’s decision to now hire Hampton has sparked significant public outcry, with nearly 300 comments on the sheriff’s department’s social media post expressing concern.
