CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The Norfolk District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced a temporary closure of the Deep Creek Locks at the Dismal Swamp Canal for mechanical repairs.
According to officials, the closure will go into effect on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. at mile marker 10.5 and will impact mariners in the area.
The closure is to allow for “urgent mechanical repairs” to replace a bearing plate. The lock is scheduled to reopen to mariners on Wednesday Aug. 20 at 9 a.m…
