MSNBC To Rebrand as MS NOW Following Comcast Spin-off
MSNBC is getting a new name as part of Comcast’s planned spin-off of NBCUniversal’s cable networks. According to reports, the network will be rebranded as “My Source News Opinion World,” or MS NOW.
The move, expected in late 2024, will see several other networks, including CNBC, USA, Oxygen, and E!, join the newly formed company, Versant. While CNBC will retain its name, it’s reportedly developing a new logo. The spin-off aims to create a distinct identity for these networks, separating them from NBC.
Comcast announced its intentions for the spin-off in a November press release, outlining the creation of a “well-capitalized independent company” featuring news, sports, and entertainment content. Mark Lazarus, designated head of Versant, stated the rebranding aims to reduce “brand confusion.” He emphasized that MS NOW will continue to target a progressive audience and hold political figures from both parties accountable.
“Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough expressed enthusiasm for the change, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit driving the company’s decisions. CNBC and MSNBC contributor Andrew Ross Sorkin also praised the new name, believing it represents independence from “legacy media.”
Following the spin-off, NBCUniversal will retain NBC, Bravo, and the Peacock streaming service, while Cesar Conde will continue to lead the NBCUniversal News Group, encompassing NBC News, NBC News Now, Telemundo, and owned-and-operated local stations.
