Raleigh, N.C. – Dense fog is covering much of central North Carolina this morning, making roads hazardous for early commuters. Visibility has dropped below a half mile in several areas, and drivers are urged to use extra caution until conditions improve.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday for counties stretching from Person and Granville down through Wake, Johnston, Cumberland, and Sampson. Forecasters warn that the thickest fog will linger in low-lying areas, along rivers, and near open fields where moisture has pooled overnight.
Hazardous conditions are expected on major highways including I-40, I-85, and U.S. 64. School zones may also see dangerous conditions as buses begin routes, and state officials stress the importance of using low-beam headlights, reducing speed, and allowing extra stopping distance…
