Amtrak’s first eastbound train in 20 years delayed an hour in South Mississippi

It wasn’t the start envisioned for Amtrak’s first commercial run east across the Mississippi Coast in 20 years, as a freight train put the new Mardi Gras train almost an hour behind schedule Monday.

The train left New Orleans, bound for Mobile, with four stops in Mississippi. It was supposed to leave Biloxi at 9:57 a.m., but instead of boarding the train, passengers got an email from Amtrak that the train was delayed by freight traffic.

Another advisory was sent when the train got rolling, and it put the train at about an hour behind schedule…
