OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Town of Oak Island has issued a red flag warning for all beaches effective immediately.
The warning overrides the forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) because of ‘several large rip currents being actively monitored by the Beach Safety Unit, according to town officials.
“During a RED FLAG, there is no ‘safe’ water depth identified. The beach areas are still open to enjoy, but ocean swimming and in-water activity should NOT take place,” said Oak Island in a news release…
