Blahnik Church not allowed to testify in Andrew Shaw murder-for-hire trial

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The murder trial of Andrew Shaw continued in Linn County Court, where he stands accused of orchestrating the murder of Chris Bagley in December 2018 by hiring two men.

Johnny Blahnik Church, who legally changed his name from Drew Blahnik, was called to testify but was ruled out by the judge. Church is currently serving a prison sentence for stabbing Bagley to death while Drew Wagner, another convict, held Bagley down.

The prosecution has rested its case, and the defense has begun presenting its witnesses. Church, the defense’s first witness, said he would invoke his Fifth Amendment rights concerning questions about Bagley’s burial and any involvement in his murder…
