If you’re in El Paso, odds are you’ve got a Dollar General within shouting distance. And if you’ve grabbed a jar of Clover Valley Instant Coffee from there recently, you might want to take a closer look before your next caffeine fix, because there’s a nationwide recall over concerns the coffee may contain glass fragments.
Yes, you read that right. Glass. In your coffee. That’s one way to “wake up,” but probably not the kind you were looking for.
Clover Valley Instant Coffee Recall Details
Dollar General says the recall affects three specific lots of its 8-ounce Clover Valley Instant Coffee, sold exclusively at Dollar General stores between July 9 and July 21. The jars have the UPC code 876941004069 and these lot numbers/best-by dates:
- L-5163 – best by 12/13/2026
- L-5164 – best by 12/13/2026
- L-5165 – best by 12/14/2026
The problem? The jars may contain glass fragments that could cause serious injuries, from chipped teeth to internal cuts. So far, no injuries have been reported, but the FDA is clear: do not drink this coffee.
Investigation Into Glass Contamination
The recall started after a customer notified Dollar General about the issue. The company is now investigating how the glass got in there and says it is “sorry for any inconvenience.” (Which is corporate speak for “We hope you didn’t try making a latte out of it already.”)
For now, if you have one of these jars, the safest move is to toss it out and contact Dollar General for a full refund.
Why This Coffee Recall Matters for El Paso Residents
With Dollar Generals scattered across the Borderland, this recall likely hits close to home. The affected coffee was sold in nearly every state except Alaska and Hawaii, meaning Texas stores, and by extension, a lot of El Paso pantries, could have it on the shelf right now…
