OKCFD performs structural collapse scenario training

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City firefighters performed refreshers on structural collapse scenarios giving its crews hands on simulating experience.

According to fire officials, crews built a rubble pile using heavy concrete slabs stacked around a car with a “victim” inside—simulating a parking garage or building collapse using its search dogs to locate the victim.

  • Teams then used a concrete core drill to create an opening for a search camera to confirm life inside.
  • Shoring was required to stabilize the slabs before accessing the vehicle.
  • With the only entry point through the trunk, rescuers breached the concrete in front of the car, tunneled through the trunk, and made their way into the cab to safely extricate the victim.
