California man arrested in Reno-Sparks fraud case involving $31K in stolen meat, seafood

A California man has been arrested following an investigation into a significant fraud case involving high-value purchases of meat and seafood in the Reno-Sparks area.

Authorities said Juan Jose Yepez Garcia of Paradise, California, was taken into custody on August 15 after an undercover delivery led police to discover a dozen large deep freezers filled with stolen meat and seafood valued at over $31,000.

The Regional Crime Suppression Unit, comprising detectives from the Sparks and Reno police departments, monitored the delivery of the fraudulently acquired goods to an address in Paradise.
