Camas passes expanded camping, sleeping ban in city limits

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Camas City Council in the state of Washington on Monday passed an expanded ban on camping and sleeping in public spaces.

The city’s previous camping ordinance outlawed camping within certain distances of rivers, lakes, parks, and certain public spaces. Now, under the new rules, the ban applies to all public property, streets, and parks.

It also specifies that “No person may sleep on public sidewalks, streets or alleyways at any time as a matter of individual and public safety … any person found in violation of this section may be immediately removed from the premises.”…
