Teen driver escapes serious injury when train hits car in Voorheesville

A 16-year-old girl was spared serious injury Monday when the SUV she was driving was hit by a freight train in Voorheesville, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Craig Apple said the teen was driving with a junior license around 4:30 p.m. when she drove around a downed railroad crossing gate near South Main and Prospect streets.

“If she were one second slower, she would not be with us today,” he said. “She’s a very lucky young lady.”…
