Reports: Albany FireWolves to Relocate Franchise to Canada

Albany, N.Y. — Something that Albany sports fans have heard various times throughout their fandom of Capital Region teams and now will hear yet again: another professional sports team is leaving Albany.

After a weekend of various reports and claims, NLL league officials have confirmed that the Albany FireWolves will leave Albany and relocate to Oshawa, Ontario ahead of the 2025-26 season. After four seasons spent at MVP Arena, the FireWolves will cease operations here and move north of the border.

These reports have stated the driving factor for this move was travel issues with getting their players, whom most live in Toronto, down to Albany for games, high-priced workers’ compensation insurance fees, and the struggle to draw large crowd for home games…
