Jefferson Circuit judge released a man on shock probation who didn’t deserve it | Opinion

A Jefferson Circuit judge has been in the news recently because she released a man on shock probation that, based on what I know, she shouldn’t have.

The defendant was serving time for a slew of charges dating back to 2021, including burglary first degree (14 years), 19 counts of second degree robbery — eight of which were amended down from first degree (10 years on each count) — fleeing and evading first degree (5 years), giving an officer false identifying information (90 days), two counts of theft by unlawful taking (90 days each) and two counts of attempted theft by unlawful taking (90 days each). All sentences were run concurrently, for a total sentence of only 14 years.

I’ve got a point to make, and this isn’t it, but, man alive, I wonder why the commonwealth agreed to amend down eight robbery first charges. Robbery in the first degree is a Class B felony, just as the first-degree burglary charge, carrying a sentence range of 10-20 years, for each count…
