Montgomery Public Schools wants retired educators to mentor, champion new teachers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery Public Schools wants to get retired educators back in the classroom. It’s holding a job fair specifically for those who have worked in education before.

MPS calls this a “bold new initiative.” The idea is not to bring these retirees in as teachers, but as mentors, coaches and champions for the next generation of educators.

MPS is creating these positions to support teachers who are early in their careers, to help guide them and ensure students get a high quality education experience from a teacher’s first day…
