This week, I set out to film a Beachcombing video about green sea turtles at the North Packery jetties. With incredible water visibility — rare for Corpus Christi — it was the perfect day to highlight these amazing animals. Green sea turtles are by far the most common sea turtle species seen around the jetties, making up 99.9% of sightings.
As I snorkeled about halfway down the jetties, I was surrounded by huge schools of bay anchovies. Just then, I spotted a green sea turtle — upside down and motionless, dangling underwater by red fishing line strung between two rocks, about 3 feet below the surface.
At first, I thought it was dead and kept filming as I reached down to gently grab its flipper. Then I noticed a faint movement from the opposite flipper — it was still alive. I dropped the camera and shifted focus to saving the turtle…
