North Heights Water Main Replacement Project mobilizes, impacts alleys and street traffic

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The City of Amarillo announced its project to replace and improve water mains in the North Heights neighborhood will begin mobilizing this week in the alley between the 1200 block of North Polk and North Taylor streets.

According to city officials, the project contractor, Turkey Creek HDD, will begin the mobilization process in that alley during the week. Water main replacements are expected to continue south toward the 800 block of North Polk and North Taylor streets.

Altogether, the North Heights Water Main Replacement Project is expected to replace existing two-inch water mains with new six-inch water mains in select locations to improve water service in the North Heights area. As noted in previous reports, the city approved the $1.28 million project in June.

Most of the work for the project is expected to take place in alleys and some street crossings. In preparation for the project, the Amarillo Solid Waste Department is expected to temporarily relocate dumpsters in affected alleys.

City officials noted further that the project will impact traffic around the construction areas. The contractor is expected to minimize impact to the public “as much as possible,” but officials advised drivers to heed all traffic signs and be cautious of work zones and personnel on or near the roadways during the project…
