City of Amarillo, recruitment firm host public meeting on search for new Amarillo Police Department chief

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The City of Amarillo announced the recruiting firm assisting the city with its search for a new chief of police will hold a public meeting on Aug. 25 for citizen input and recruitment process information.

Officials said the firm, Public Sector Search & Consulting, will hold the public meeting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 25 in Room 1500 of City Hall.

City of Amarillo seeking input for next police chief

Community members were encouraged to come to the meeting and provide feedback regarding the recruitment and selection of the next Amarillo Police Department chief. As noted in previous reports, the search began after the retirement of former Chief Martin Birkenfeld in February. Since then, Assistant Chief Jimmy Johnson has served as Acting Chief of the Amarillo Police Department.

Further, the city offered an online survey in both English and Spanish for community members to submit and help guide the selection process. The survey will be used to help identify “qualities, experience and public safety priorities that matter most to the Amarillo community.”…
