Jackson Housing Task Force holds inaugural meeting

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Mayor John Horhn’s Housing Task Force met for the first time on August 18, 2025.

Horhn appointed Brian Burns to chair the 10-person committee, which includes real estate developers, lawyers and community leaders. There’s also a spot for JXN Water, pending approval from U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate.

Jackson mayor forms task force to tackle housing issues

The goal of the task force is to make sure people have affordable, safe and sanitary housing in the capital city. They want to help residents and business owners keep the capital city moving forward.

“To put things in place. Basically, legislation that can go to actually put teeth in the things that we’re doing. We also plan to have things for the citizens of Jackson, the residents of these apartment complexes and housing, as well as the business owners, that want to come, because we want more business owners, and we want more owners in Jackson,” said Burns…
