SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his then-wife’s grandmother is standing trial for a second time nearly a decade after his arrest.
R.C. Curtis is charged with capital murder in connection with the death of beloved HEB deli worker Paula Boyd. Boyd was found fatally beaten in her apartment in October of 2015.
Curtis’ first trial in 2021 resulted in a mistrial after evidence was discovered during the proceedings that hadn’t been turned over to the defense. Attempts to have the case thrown out on appeal were unsuccessful. As the prosecution was preparing to take the case to trial last year, more evidence was discovered that again hadn’t been turned over to the defense, prompting district court judge Stephanie Boyd to order a thorough in-court audit of the prosecution guide to ensure all evidence was turned over prior to the trial…
