‘Increasingly difficult’: Citing rising rent, Lehigh Valley retro arcade to close

SALISBURY TWP., Pa. – A popular spot to play Galaga, Donkey Kong, Double Dragon and other beloved arcade games is set to end operations in Lehigh County.

The Allentown area location of Back to the Arcade, at the South Mall in Salisbury Township, will end operations in August 2026 due to increasing rent, Back to the Arcade owner Mark Paden said.

“The amount of increase on last years lease is too much for me,” Paden wrote on the business’ Facebook page. “When I can’t make enough to donate to my charities, and break even then it’s time to retire.”

When contacted by 69 News, Paden echoed his written statement, stressing that a large part of Back to the Arcade’s mission is to give back to the Lehigh Valley area community through donations to local charities and nonprofit organizations, including several groups helping animals and children in need…
