A popular Columbia Bojangles is temporarily closed. Here’s where and why

A popular Columbia location of a well-known fried chicken chain is temporarily closed for remodeling.

The Bojangles at 930 Elmwood Ave. in downtown was closed at about 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 when a reporter stopped by. The parking lot, normally packed during lunchtime, was empty and there were notes on the doors and windows of the business that said it was “closed for remodel.” The posted notes directed customers to other Bojangles locations, specifically the ones at 4301 Fort Jackson Blvd. in Columbia or 1200 Augusta Road in West Columbia.

The notes on the doors and windows did not say how long the remodeling would last. There were paint buckets and other materials inside the lobby Tuesday when a reporter peeked inside. An attempted call to the restaurant Tuesday was met with a message from Verizon that the eatery’s number was “temporarily unavailable.”

There are more than 800 Bojangles locations across the U.S., according to data website ScrapeHero. The company has stores across South Carolina, including 20 locations in the Columbia and Lexington areas…
