Governor Mike DeWine announces projects to clean up Ohio River

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WOWK) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine spent Tuesday in Scioto County announcing plans to beautify the Ohio River.

A beautification barge was launched from the Shawnee State Park Marina into the Ohio River by H2Ohio, a program created by Gov. DeWine to address the complex issues facing Ohio’s waterways. One of the key initiatives of the program is to clean up illegal dump sites from Ohio’s large rivers and streams.

The beautification barge, named the Queen of Clean, is a 30-foot vessel that can carry nearly 13,000 pounds of debris from the bottom of the river, such as tires, abandoned boats and large appliances…
