Van Aken District in Shaker Heights implemented a temporary chaperone policy, requiring minors to be accompanied by a parent or adult age 25 or older after 8 p.m., through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
The policy was created in partnership with the city of Shaker Heights and the Shaker Heights Police Department, as a method to effectively manage crowds and unchaperoned minors, which the shopping district called “more challenging than in previous years.”
The policy, which applies to all areas of the Van Aken District and Shaker Plaza, permits one adult to accompany up to four minors. Minors who are actively dining, shopping or waiting in line after 8 p.m. are permitted to remain unaccompanied until their activity is complete…
