North Carolina drug kingpin whose reach included Robeson County gets 40 years in prison

RALEIGH, N.C. (WBTW) — A Fayetteville man whose drug empire reached into multiple North Carolina counties including Robeson is headed to prison for 40 years, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

Courtney Linwood “Blaze” Matthews, 47, was sentenced in U.S. District Court’s Eastern North Carolina region for his role leading a multi-year drug trafficking ring that sent more than 839 kilograms of cocaine, 9.5 kilograms of heroin and 2.4 kilograms of fentanyl across the state.
